Will they deem these threats as free speech,or will they see them for what they REALLY are...contracts for murder!

al-Qaida: Bounty on Swedish Cartoonist

Saturday, September 15, 2007 4:41 AM

CAIRO, Egypt -- The leader of al-Qaida in Iraq offered money for the murder of a Swedish cartoonist who recently produced images deemed insulting to Islam, according to a statement carried by Islamist Web sites Saturday.

In the half hour audio file entitled "They plotted yet God too was plotting," Abu Omar al-Baghdadi also promised a new offensive in Iraq during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

On Aug. 19, the Swedish newspaper Nerikes Allehanda published a cartoon by Lars Vilks that depicted the Prophet Muhammad with a dog's body.

Muslims in Sweden rallied outside the newspaper's offices to demand an apology, and the governments of Iran and Pakistan lodged formal protests with Sweden, but other than that the reaction to the cartoon was muted.

That response is in contrast to last year's fiery protests that erupted in several Muslim countries after a Danish newspaper published 12 cartoons of Muhammad.

Islamic law is interpreted to forbid any depiction of the prophet for fear it could lead to idolatry.

In the tape, al-Baghdadi also named other insurgent groups in Iraq that al-Qaida was fighting and promised new attacks, particular against the minority Yazidi sect that was recently devastated by massive car bombs.

"We are calling for the assassination of cartoonist Lars Vilks who dared insult our Prophet, peace be upon him, and we announce a reward during this generous month of Ramadan of $100,000 for the one who kills this criminal," the transcript on the Web site said.

Of course we take threats from al-Qaida seriously. Why wouldn't we? Prime Minister Reinfeldt has already met ambassadors from several Muslim countries and explained freedom of speech to them. He's taken a wiser approach than the Danish Prime Minister who refused to even talk to the ambassadors in Copenhagen during that previous crisis. Diplomacy has not lost its value in Sweden.

But there's also another side to it. Muslims in Sweden denounce threats against the artist, but they are also disappointed in his rather obvious attempts at insulting Islam and their prophet. Considering how you go crazy whenever Christianity is criticized, you should know how they feel.

You can talk to as many Muslim countries as you want ,but they have no control over the radicals.
So you are wasting your breath.

Al-Qeada does not negotiate except where convesion to Islam is concerned. And in the case its convert or be enslaved or killed.

Yes Christians like me get very upset and complain and boycott, but I don't see us putting out contracts on those who make cartoons or insult our religion.

We ask for apologies, but we don't lop off heads.

Of course it doesn't help talking to extremists, so we don't. There is no point. But they're the minority among Muslims. Regular Muslims also hate what that artist did, but they can be reasoned with, which is what we're doing.

The al-Qaeda in Iraq threats are most likely very empty (what exactly is their connection to the real al-Qaeda? Aren't they like the black sheep in the terror family?), so if you're concerned about that artist getting his head chopped off, I think you can relax. Smile Some terrorists are trying to make themselves more global than they really are.

Al-Qaeda leader in Iraq raises "reward" for killing cartoonist to $150,000 provIded he is 'slaughtered like a lamb". THEN ADDS EDITOR TO THE HIT LIST.

Cartoonist is in hiding with around the clock police protection.

Oh...and all those moderate ambasadors from those Muslim nations the Swedish PM appealed to...they say this :

Cartoonist Hiding From al-Qaida Threat

Sep 17 01:34 PM US/Eastern
By LOUISE NORDSTROM
Associated Press Writer

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) - A Swedish cartoonist who depicted Islam's Prophet Muhammad with the body of a dog said Monday that police have taken him to a secret location and told him he cannot return home following a death threat from al-Qaida in Iraq.
Lars Vilks, who was whisked away by police when he returned to Sweden from Germany on Sunday, said police have described the threats against him as "very serious."

"Police guard was nonexistent before this. It's 100 percent now," he said in a telephone interview. "I can't live in my home, I've only been allowed to pick up some things."

***Note:

I corrected my post to say Al-Qaeda leader in Iraq, not Sweden after Stefen pointed out my error.****

OK, Homer. I admit to drinking this evening, but even I in my inebriated state (yes, I had to look up that word to get the exact spelling) can read that it is al-Qaeda in IRAQ not SWEDEN that is saying those things. So, get your facts straight. There is no al-Qaeda in Sweden, thank you very much. You may think this organization exists in every country outside of the U.S., but... no.

Yes, the security police is now making sure Lars Vilks is protected, but no one seriously believes there will be any repercussions. One of our leading terror experts, Magnus Ranstorp, who's a prefessor at a university in Scotland, has said that the only real threat is that some lone Muslim nut in Sweden might attempt to kill Vilks (the situation is not entirely unlike the one in the Netherlands where filmmaker Theo Van Gogh was shot to death a few years ago)... but it isn't likely. We haven't had any real racial threats in Sweden. The riots you have read about in Malmö are hardly to be taken seriously, as I've written about previously.

Again. Al-Qaeda in Iraq is a minor terror organization that is more of a threat to your troops. They haven't inspired any terror acts outside of Iraq and if I recall correctly bin-Laden chastised them previously for being too sadistic in Iraq. That hardly renders them a group one should fear or take seriously... outside of Iraq. Your troops on the other hand should look out for their roadside bombs.

Ooops...you are correct,it does say al-Qaida in Iraq,not Sweden.

I apologize .

However they have supporters in many countries, and the "reward" for murder is offered up to any one.

Why no condemnation from the Muslims in your country about putting out a contract on someones life?

Do you really believe there are not any radicals in Sweden?

Muslims in Sweden have condemned it. There has also been issued a fatwa from a European Muslim council denouncing al-Qaeda in Iraq and what they said. What else do you expect them to do? They're regular people who have no contact with murderers living in Iraq. They have no influence over their actions. However, the fatwa might of course stop some lunatic from trying to commit murder, I don't know.

Radicals in Sweden? Sure. Probably, like in most countries. But, as you know the artist now has police protection and you can't really stop some lone nut from trying to do something. Many crimes will be committed tonight in my country and yours and many of them can't be predicted. But, no, I don't really believe there is an influential, secret radical group in this country that could do something. That could change though and I hope the police has their eyes on it, counting on the possibility.
