I have never been to Pittsburg and I probably will never go there. I have never met anyone who was born in Pittsburgh, is from there, lived there or has even visited this city. But I have a great admiration for this city and the tenacity of it's loyal inhabitants. This city that went from a population of 600,000 + half that number still has four Major league sports teams and a minor league basket ball team Many cities of a million plus could not support that many sports teams.
Pittsburg is still a center for Pennsylvania coal , natural gas and oil industries, all of which have made a comback since the collapse of their steel industry in the 80's.Pittsburg is the original home of Quaker State Oil now part of Pennzoil and they have their offices in Pittsburg. It now has an extremely diverse economy and i am happy that Pittsburg is on the way to recovery. Do you have a favorite city that is not your home town. I'd like to hear about it. |

I'm living in my favorite city that is not my original hometown. I am originally from Houston. But I have adopted San Antonio and I plan on retiring here. We do have the population (around 1.3 million) to support major league teams but only the NBA will let us have one. And what a team we have! 4 time World Champions!
I have been to Pittsburg and happen to worship their hockey team. |

I have never been to San Antonio but i have wanted to go there for a long time. Maybe in the future.
I agree that the 9th most populous city in the country should have more major league sports teams. I guess it's a question of each sport. Maybe they feel that being so close to Huston another team dividing the market would be detrimental to the sports in question. I only follow hockey and baseball and I could see another MLB team there. Chicago has two and it's population is one million less than the combined populations of Houston and San Antonio. I am surprised that SA doesn't have a AAA baseball team instead of a AA team though. How do they draw? |

I don't follow the baseball team, but I do follow the hockey team. Our season will kick back up in a few months and the Rampage will be back in business. I don't mind that we don't have an NHL team in San Antonio. It doesn't really make sense to put one here. Well, I suppose it would to Gary Buttman. He'll put a team anywhere. I'm currently waiting to see when he sells the Holy Grail to Satan. Oh wait, he did that last season......
The city is screaming, however, for an NFL team. Fagliabue, unfortunately, never seemed to think our city could support a football team. Pittsburg can support 4 major league teams with just over half a million customers, but San Antonio can't support 2 with almost 3 times that fan base. Got to love jackass sports commissioners. In truth it has more to do with Dallas. The Boys don't want to lose their market share here or in Austin. So they are strongly opposing any NFL move to San Antonio. There is no valid reason that they can come up to justify it on pure numbers so they pull up market share crap. Hopefully Goodell will be more open to the idea of treating us with a little more respect than his predessesor.
Anyway, enough about my sports rant. I am thrilled to have our little hockey team and I heartily support them. Plus, the world can hate us, but we do have the Spurs. |
