FREE RAMOS AND COMPEAN NOW! New facts coming to light. Bush the weed can commute a rat like Libby's sentence but he won't touch the case of those two USBP agents who were wrongly convicted and sentenced. Do you think it might have to do with Bush's cocaine habit. Or maybe Bush secretly hates Latinos. If so he will then gent the Fropsty seal of approval for bigotry above and beyond the call of duty..
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- There was an unusual spectacle in the nation's capital Tuesday, downright rare, in fact: U.S. Senators seeking truth, and justice, and taking action. And they deserve great credit and thanks.
The Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, led by Dianne Feinstein, focused on the reasons for the prosecution of two Border Patrol agents now serving long sentences in federal prison. Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean were given terms of 11 and 12 years respectively on their convictions for shooting an illegal alien drug smuggler.
Senator Feinstein, and Senators Jeff Sessions, John Cornyn, Jon Kyl and Tom Coburn demanded answers of U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, who chose to prosecute Compean and Ramos and give that illegal alien drug smuggler blanket immunity to testify against the men.
Sutton's decision to prosecute the agents, to file attempted murder charges against them and seek harsh mandatory prison sentences was simply an outrage. Senators Feinstein, Sessions and Cornyn took Sutton to task over what they clearly see now as a blatant abuse of prosecutorial power and strongly questioned the decision to give immunity to a known illegal alien drug smuggler. Sutton's office gave the smuggler immunity in order to prosecute the two agents who had pursued him in a high-speed chase, which ultimately resulted in the wounding of the drug dealer who had ditched his van, loaded with hundreds of pounds of drugs, and ran from the agents.
I have maintained throughout that the prosecution of these two agents was unwarranted, that sufficient facts were in dispute that the case should never have been brought to trial. The two Border Patrol agents received excessive sentences by any reasonable standard of justice. But reason did not prevail, and the Senate Judiciary Committee has begun the process of righting this wrong.
The agents were serving their nation in a war zone along our southern border. The fact is Mexico remains the primary corridor for drugs entering the United States. Mexico is the principal source of heroin, cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine s into this country. Between 70 and 90 percent of cocaine entering the United States from South America passed through mainland Mexico or its waters. Heroin brought in from Mexico accounts for about 30 percent of the U.S. market, despite Mexico's relatively small percentage of worldwide production. Mexican traffickers continued to dominate drug distribution in the United States, controlling most of the primary distribution centers. Our border with Mexico is the main battlefield in the war against drugs, and the federal government has treated Ramos and Compean with contempt rather than gratitude for their service on the front lines of that war.
Border Patrol Chief David Aguilar Tuesday testified at the hearing that from February 1, 2005 to June 30, 2007, there were 1,982 incidents where Border Patrol agents have been assaulted. These assaults include rock throwing, physical assaults, vehicular assaults as well as shootings. In response, Border Patrol agents have responded with the use of deadly force on 116 occasions, with 144 agents discharging their weapons during these 116 incidents.
Aguilar also testified that 13 assailants died as a result, and 15 incidents ended with the assailants being wounded. Of the 144 agents involved, comprehensive investigations were formally conducted, and not a single agent has been criminally prosecuted for their actions. Then why in the world did Sutton choose to prosecute agents in this case? The senators did not like U.S. Attorney Sutton's answers.
TJ Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council, the union that represents Ramos and Compean, expressed anger at the sentences Tuesday and said the Border Patrol is suffering as a result: "The ramifications of this case [will be felt] by the Border Patrol," Bonner said. Bonner added an anecdote about a former Border Patrol recruit who eventually declined joining and said "You have to be crazy to join this outfit, because you eat your own."
Senator Feinstein and Senator Cornyn announced Tuesday night on our broadcast that they have decided to request that President Bush commute the sentences of Ramos and Compean. The family of Ignacio Ramos watched and listened to the senators make their announcement in our Washington, D.C., bureau, and they were moved to tears.

Well...I won't go so far as to call Libby a rat.
I believe that he was railroaded, the real rat is Novak.
The Wilsons character is questionable IMO.
Anyway, yes ,he (Bush) should step in and commute their sentences at the least.
They should be pardoned IMO.
I watched a show the other night,Glen somebody, and the facts that his guest presented showed they were the victims of an over zealous prosecuter with a political agenda.
Facts were witheld from the jury, that would have aquitted them, and immunity was given to a criminal.
But the two things that really upset me is that the Mother of the drug runner was friends with and was communicating with the Mother of one of their fellow officers, during the investigation, and the trial!
Sounds like a set up to me.
Plus a former head of the Border Patrol ( a black man) ,can't recall the name, gave testimony to a Congressional Committe looking into the matter, that did not IMO help their case.
He seemed to side with the prosecuter. |

Libby is a rat IMO simply because everyone "inside the beltway" is a rat as far as I am concerned. I am really going for the idea of a much smaller fed. Not like the conservatives but more like the Libertarians.
Also having worked with the INS for 12 years i feel a kinship with USBP officers who have a really difficult job now being made more difficult with the infusion of those goofy militias who are causing more problems than they are solving.
If Bush thinks as he says that the US Constitution is just a piece of paper" then he shouldn't even quibble about subverting it and allowing the NG to enforce the border laws as well as patrol the area. It would seem that the administration does not agree with using "deadly force" against the drug lord invaders from south of the border. My God even the Mexican government uses deadly force against them
This whole circus just makes me sick and to see two hard working USBP agents sitting in jail for 12 years each while a drug lord is still in business because the government won't do a damn thing about it makes me want to puke. An to think there are people in this country who agree with Sutton is disgusting. The minute the USBP stops doing their job you are going to find places like Hazelton all over the country and you won't be able to do a thing about it. |

Hazelton was just given a kick in the gut by the courts.
They ruled that they can not punish businesses or landlords who aid illegal aliens, only the FEDS have the right to enforce immigration laws.
Thats not only a blow to Hazelton, but now the illegal activists are going after the Arizona Sherrif who has set up an alien tip lline.
Its a sad day when your President, your Homeland Security, and both Houses have people willing to sell you out in order to gain enough votes to stay in power!

Well, since the federal government has stipulated that it is their job and their job alone to enforce immigration laws, I have a solution for the good Sheriff of Hazelton. He should sue the federal government for damages and expenses incurred by the City of Hazelton for every illegal alien that the federal government willfully failed to remand into custody and/or deport. The Sheriff could also attempt to prove that the federal government is incompetent and has committed an egregious dereliction of their responsibility. He could attest that he is more capable of enforcing the law and therefore the federal government should be removed as the primary steward and local law enforcement be allowed to police immigration crime.
Also, any citizen of Hazelton should sue the federal government for damages caused by illegal aliens to their persons or properties. In many situations there are cases of murder which could have been prevented had the federal government simply followed though in deportation procedures. Certainly obvious cases for gross negligence.
Anyway, it's an idea.................I think it would be funny if he tried it anyway. Hell, I think it would be funny if individuals in the town started bringing lawsuits against the government for failure to enforce the law. I think that would be hilarious. And then they could start suing some of these crackpots who are going after the Sheriff for............hell, I don't know, I'm sure I'll think of something. Anyway, like I said, it's just an idea. |

| Now people are coming forward and saying that the drug runner was running back toward Mexico firing at the USBP agents over his sholder. This explains to me why he caught one in the ass. This along with a lot of other facts and details were left out of Sutton's court room procedures. I think he's a scumbag and should go to prison himself. It's becoming more and more obvious that he lied and hid facts to better his own record. Some of these, maybe most, prosecutors are more interested in racking up conviction that in justice itself. We have become a morally bankrupt nation. |

People see the change in power taking place in DC,and are changing sides rapidly.
One could lose ones job,if seen as the opposition.
The prosecuter is kissing up to the liberals. |

Looks like Mr. Sutton has set a dangerous precedent with his prosecution of the two border patrol agents.
Bring charges, take testimony from criminals(wonder if they got immunity?),Mexico files a complaint and we go to trial!

Free $50,000 Practice Account.BISBEE, Arizona (Reuters) - A U.S. Border Patrol agent must stand trial for murder in the shooting of a Mexican man trying to enter the United States, an Arizona judge ruled Monday in a case that drew criticism from Mexico.
Agent Nicholas Corbett was charged in April with four counts of homicide in the January 12 shooting of Francisco Dominguez Rivera shortly after he crossed the border illegally on a stretch of desert between Douglas and Naco.
Cochise County Justice of the Peace David Morales ruled the evidence supported lesser charges of second-degree murder, but threw out charges of first-degree murder, which supposes premeditation.
The ruling followed a preliminary hearing that heard evidence from three illegal immigrants present at the shooting, a pathologist, county sheriff's detectives and two Border Patrol supervisors.
No date was set for Corbett's arraignment.
Following the killing, Mexico's Foreign Ministry complained of "disproportionate violence" and instructed the Mexican Embassy in Washington to investigate the circumstances.
Last year, border police captured 1.1 million undocumented immigrants crossing over the border from Mexico and recorded a soaring number of attacks on agents.
Lawyers for Corbett argue he shot Dominguez Rivera in self-defense after he was threatened with a rock.
An agent representing the local chapter of the Border Patrol's union said he believed the charges against Corbett would not hold up at trial.
"I don't think the prosecution has a good case, and the defense will absolutely beat it," Brandon Judd said after the hearing.
Last year, two Border Patrol agents were prosecuted in Texas for shooting an unarmed Mexican drug smuggler in the buttocks.
They were convicted and sentenced to more than 10 years in jail, becoming a cause celebre among some conservatives and anti-illegal immigration hard-liners.

The prosecutor is definitely not kissing up to the liberals here. Unless you think that this administration has suddenly morphed into liberals. It's Bush and the WH who refuse to grant a pardon or commute the sentences. Both Feinstein andConyers have opposed the prosecutor and they are the ones calling for an investigation. The liberal dog don't hunt here. You cannot really make this a partisan issue because there are people from both sides of the aisle getting together on this one. If Sutton is kissing anyone's ass to keep his job it's Bush's. He is after all a Bush appointee. Let's be honest about this for as much as you dislike the Dems...Render unto Caesar. |

Thats my point exactly..90 % of the Dems. in Congress are pro comprehensive immigration...they oppose anything that would stop illegals of any kind from becoming citizens ASAP.
So if he wants to keep his job after Bush leaves office,he has to show people like Kennwedy,Shumer,Durbin.Leahy,Clinton and others he is pro-illegal immigrant.... in other words liberal minded when it comes to immigration, and border security.
It was the Republicans that kept that piece of crap bill from becoming law.

Well the actual percentage is closer to 70 than 90 but that is just splitting hairs
If Sutton thinks he's going to keep his job because he is siding with the Dems he'd better think twice after this "Gonzo Affair". Since he was appointed by Bush he'll befired by what ever Dem is in office. Just out of spite. Nothing to do with ablity.
All in all who knows WTH the dems are doing. They are dumping every point the were elected to change. They are no different than the Bushies. i guess what the people want just doesn't matter to these low lifes we keep sending to Washington. You can bet it will be a long time before I vote Dem or Rep and since that's all who run in local elections I am just going skip those. If I wanted someone who refuses to pay attention to the voice of the people I'd have voted for Castro...at least he has some experience. :D |
