I was just curious. I used to work on the mid shift and there is a family of skunks that run around the place. It drives me crazy because I just know that I am going to get sprayed by one of them someday. And then I would end up at the military hospital down to my underwear getting hosed off and powdered with whatever chemical absorbant they are using to neutralize "skunk essence". Meanwhile, my uniform is completely ruined, I'm throwing up incessantly and everyone at work is laughing their butts off. Anyway, I really hate skunks.

And I don't like Scorpions. Pretty much almost any animal that begins with an "S" is out. Skunks, Scorpions, Snakes, Sharks, Slugs, Sloths, Sea Lions, Spider Monkies, Squirrels, Spotted Hyenas, Stingrays, Stinging Insects, Scarabs, Spiders and Salmon.

Yep, don't like most "S" animals. Although I do like Seahorses. And Shrimp are quite tasty.

Skunks are cute little critters in my view. I've gotten very close to them and never get worried. Maybe I'm just perceived as a non-threat by them since I love all animals. As a matter of fact, there's a skunk that lives around my house and is often in the yard at night when I leave for work. He just ignores me for the most part and often is very close to my car. He’s just a cute, harmless little thing. I also like squirrels and they are all over the place up here. My cat loves to go out and chase them around but he never catches one (at least not that I’ve seen). Last year he brought me home a chipmunk though and I was pretty amazed he was able to catch that.

Some of your other "S" creatures I agree with though. Scorpions?? Fuck those things! We don't have those in Maine and we also don't have any poisonous snakes. I’m thankful for that.

Skunks are not cute. Their stink makes me sick. Litterally. Just wait til you get sprayed. And Squirrels are nothing but rats with fluffy tails. Have you ever seen one up close. They have all sorts of parasites crawling on them. But yeah, scorpions really suck. We have a lot of them down here. Once, I was working the mid shift and one of them kept following me. I finally called one of the guards and he came over and stepped on it, but it was pretty hairy there for about ten minutes. The damn thing was actually after me.

Anyway, you didn't say what you were afraid of..............specifically.

*** I find them very cute. Now, If their stink makes you sick that's another matter all together. I certainly understand that but it really has nothing to do with whether or not a skunk is cute or not. In any event, I find them cute. Plus, I've been around them all my life and never had an issue. When I was young my family had a camp and skunks, raccoons, squirrels, deer, badgers, beavers and many other creatures were all over the place. I loved it. Only the squirrels were occasionally a problem when they'd invade our bunkhouse (aka guesthouse) and get into the walls. Still, my father never killed them. He, just like me is not a hunter or someone who would needlessly kill animals.

I also don't think squirrels are ugly at all. Yes, I've seen many of them up close. I even used to feed them at my old apt. when they'd crawl up the fire-escape and peek into my window. I'm just the kind of person that loves nature and observing wild animals.

Okay, what scares me? Well, Al Gore is pretty damned creepy if you ask me! :D

Snakes. But it's more complex than that. I love watching them on TV or in a zoo... but in the wild they freak me out, even though we only have one mildly poisonous species in this country.

Snakes actually don't freak me out the way they used to. Probably because I haven't been bitten by one in about 20 years. But I still don't particulary care for them. Texas has more snakes than you can shake a stick at. They are everywhere.

Once, in my twenties, I lived in this small apartment complex (similar to Melrose Place) and we were having a party in the courtyard. Well, I had a bit too much to drink (big surprise) so I went to lay down for a nap. I left my front door open so that my neighbors could go in and out as they please as there was beer and food in my kitchen.

About an hour later I woke up because there was something squeezing my legs together. Really tightly. I pulled back the covers and there was my neighbors 6 foot long boa constrictor wrapped around my body. My friends thought it would be funny if they slipped the damn thing into my bed while I was passed out. Naturally I started screaming, which made matters worse. By the time my neighbors got there, it had worked it's way up my torso. It took 5 of them to unwrap it from my upper legs and mid-section. Of course it didn't help that I was screaming, flailing my arms about and trying to kick the entire time.

I know it seems like it was a really mean thing for them to do, but looking back...........no, there's no way around it. That was just shitty. Jerkoffs.

Heights,and tight places.

I wasn't afraid of either until about 1970 when I was involved in an industrial accidident.
I was working at the top of a 12 foot ladder wiring up a control box when a bunch of equiptment toppled over.
Sort of a domino effect involving at least ten welded frames.

I was in betwen # 7 and 8 ,and the ladder was kicked out from under me.
Thankfully the ladder stayed open and landed on top of me or the other units would have crushed my head.

My right hand was cut (gouged actually) clear to the bone.

After the dust cleared I was pinned under the debries for about 45 minutes.

Now I even sweat standing on a step ladder,or being in a meeting with several people unless the office door is open and I am sitting near the exit.

Heights. I am claustrophobic as well.

I have to sit facing the door. Mostly it's so I can scan the people coming in. An old habit I picked up from Nick. My room mate does it too. He's the only one I can eat in a restaurant with and have my back to the door.
